the good & bad news

The good news is that Hudson and I are finally feeling better, mostly. The bad news is that Dan is now upstairs with the dreadful cold we unwillingly gave him. It's been a week of sniffles, snuggles, coughs and cuddles. For every down side of this long, drawn out cold, there has been a time of this mother sitting on the couch with her little boy saying "thank you Lord for this moment". I truly treasure each and every moment I have as a parent. When I think of how fast our little one is growing it transforms the long moments of taking care of a sick baby into moments I'll never forget nor regret. The sore knees from kneeling over the crib rubbing his little back trying to encourage him to fall asleep become irrelevant as I realize I was able to whisper in his ear, "shhhh, Mommy loves you" while I studied his each and every feature for the thousandth time. Now I am beginning to understand what God meant when he said he "quiets us with His love". It is as though He Himself is whispering in our ears "Shhh, I love you, rest now my precious child".

May you rest in his love today. ~Kristi

Emotions

Sometimes in life one can go through emotions quite quickly, and for unknown reasons...

If you give a toddler a minute....

he'll want some mischief to go with it. And chances are if he finds some mischief, they'll be a mess to clean up after. Then while you're cleaning up the mess you'll give the toddler a minute. And chances are if you give a toddler a minute...

Mmmmm

What is so good about drinking from a washcloth? Watching Hudson in the bathtub takes me back to the good old days before I realized how gross it is to drink your bath water. God must give children iron stomaches.

Also, in honor of Jenny's mishap with the clothing, or lack thereof, I thought I'd share one of my own from this morning.

I awoke this morning to a loud crash and Hudson wailing. Dan was already taking care of him but I had to rush to see what had happened. I throw back the covers, jump out of bed, intending to bound down the stairs like a gazelle to my precious baby. In all actuality, I am more like a blind, handicapped bat for the first 10 minutes I'm awake. My body resists the movement and my joints and muscles remain something like jello while I bounce like a pinball from wall to wall in efforts to begin each day. So this morning in my panic to get to Hudson I turn the corner to rush downstairs and overestimate the depth of the first step. What came next was the longest & bumpiest ride I've ever taken. Dan thought for sure Armageddon had begun as with each of the 14 steps I bounced over the thud of my rear end sent reverberations though the entire house. I held on to the handrail to slow my speed and thought all the while "this is the slipperiest carpet, who knew carpet could be slippery!". Thankfully neither Hudson or I were truly hurt, although I have a strawberry on my hip, elbow and thumb as battle scars. Ten minutes later as Dan left for work he couldn't help but laugh as he asked if he should stay to babysit his two accident prone family members. Poor Hudson, he comes by it honestly.

Where's Hudson?

Sometimes I feel as though we were playing hide and seek with him as we try to dig our way out from under the boxes. His little head disappears easily behind just about everything, and with a healthy dose of personal preservation missing, he is one that needs a watchful eye kept close. I love visiting our friends, and love visiting our friends with children just a little older than Hudson as we can get a scoop on what is coming our way in the next months. On our last visit with our dear friends the Zappasodis I enjoyed Rebecca's explanation of little Micah pointing out things that are off limits. As we walked by the pond he shook his index finger at the water saying "no no no" while Rebecca responded "thats right Micah, we can't go in the water". I loved that he stood there reprimanding the water. The gas fireplace in our home is the "testing ground" for Hudson. He is fascinated with it, and a little practice, he now walks around the house shaking his hand with index finger somewhat extended towards it. It is all I can do to keep a straight face each time I see him shaking his fat little hand. I'm not sure how to keep him from thinking it is a game though. He looks at me, then the fireplace, then smiles each time wanting me to say "no no no" while he obliges with his own sign language of the "no no". So far it has kept him at a distance from the hot glass, and he certainly gets the concept that he is not supposed to touch it, so heres hoping.

About the pictures I promised. I took the camera downstairs to get some pictures and once again can't seem to find it. I know, I know, I should be more careful, but if you moved into a place with no storage space and were busy trying to take care of a little one and find places to put millions of items you'd have a hard time too. In fact, Hudson goes though about 4 sippy cups a day lately as it is too much trouble to hunt down the one he had last, so being the conservator that I am, I simply go to the cabinet and make a new one for him. I'm sure they'll turn up... eventually. :)
